At Ultimate Eyecare Santa Fe, we offer a wide range of contact lenses in Santa Fe, New Mexico for every vision need and lifestyle. Most people choose to wear soft contact lenses because they are comfortable to wear and come in many different options. However, while we prescribe soft contact lenses to many patients, these lenses are not for everyone. Eye conditions such as dry eye, astigmatism, or keratoconus can make wearing traditional contact lenses uncomfortable and risky. For these “hard-to-fit” patients, we offer specialty contact lens options for clearer vision and a more comfortable fit.

Rigid gas permeable contact lenses
Rigid gas permeable lenses, also known as RGP lenses, are a great option for patients who have difficulty wearing soft contact lenses. These lenses are made of durable materials that allow oxygen to pass through and reach the surface of your eye. They are especially beneficial for patients with astigmatism or keratoconus.
Hybrid lenses
Hybrid lenses are a combination of a hard center and a soft skirt that provide the clarity of a hard lens with the comfort of a soft lens. The hard center is made of gas permeable (GP) material, which optimizes sharpness of vision. The soft skirt provides long-lasting comfort. Hybrid lenses are designed for patients with keratoconus, astigmatism, and irregular corneas.
Multifocal contact lenses
Many people over 40 develop presbyopia, a common age-related condition that makes it harder to focus on close-up objects. Multifocal lenses contain multiple prescriptions in one lens, allowing you to see clearly at all distances without needing reading glasses. If you find yourself struggling with both near and far vision, multifocal contact lenses may be right for you.
Toric contact lenses
Toric contact lenses are specially designed for people with astigmatism, which is an irregular curvature of the cornea or lens of the eye that causes blurry or distorted vision. Toric lenses are shaped differently than traditional contact lenses to address the irregular shape of the eye and provide clear vision for those with astigmatism. It’s common for people with astigmatism to also have nearsightedness or farsightedness, and toric lenses can address multiple issues in a single lens.
Monovision contact lenses
With monovision, one eye is corrected for distance vision while the other eye is corrected for near vision. This allows someone to see clearly at all distances without needing bifocals or different glasses.
